The etymological root of the word 'character' comes from the Greek word 'kharakter', which literally means an instrument that engraves, an instrument that chisels away. 'Kharax' is a pointed stake, meant to scratch, scrape, chip away.
Building character is perhaps not a 'building process'. It is perhaps more of a chipping away, a scraping away, a chiseling of the block of marble and sculpting from the mass - the TRUE FORM - the imprint of the Soul - THE CHARACTER. An unravelling, an unveiling process, a peeling off of layers of falsities and lifetime adaptations. A breaking off, piece by piece.
Whether you are leading a nation, a large corporation, a business, a family or just yourself, IMPACTFUL leadership, the real BENEVOLENT kind, requires credibility - which ought to be based on character. Of course, for most of the intelligent folks in the world, this is not the charismatic kind of character we see in a certain narcissistic #boyKing #conArtists. They are dangerous entertainment and fortunately do not hold up the wrath of history in the long run.

The character we are chiseling away to unearth is the real SOLID kind, based on Ancient Chinese concepts of 德 'De' - integrity & virtue, and 無爲 'Wu Wei' - effortless doing, non-doing. A type of character that is the most refined version of our TRUE AUTHENTIC benevolent, intelligent SELF. Wise, Intuitive and moving through challenges and effort - EFFORTLESSLY - naturally, elegantly, gracefully. Never forced. The finest refinement of humanity.

The chiseling process takes humility and courage, what they call 'the parents of virtue'. You've gotta be humble enough to get it's value. And you've gotta be relentless, resilient. Period. It is not always pretty and not seeped in pleasure. Pain, agony, resistance and exhaustion are a part of the breaking process. As is. Forgive Life.
